Patty: Artist Statement

In every city or town, people are struggling with addiction, and in many places, there is this idea of the “wrong side of the tracks”. This image complicates that idea, showing that bright skies can exist on both sides of this crisis. It references the toll of drugs and alcohol on our communities, but also shows that even if you cross the tracks to the “dark side” away from the sunlight of brighter, clearer skies, you can still make it through, finding the light of survival, recovery, and healing in the sparkling stars of the night sky.
