Gianna: Artist Statement
I wanted to use vibrant colors to show how passionately I feel about my recovery. The progression of colors from darker to brighter reflect the challenges that I have overcome. I started with dark blues to demonstrate the storms that I have found myself in and my resilience in finding my way through. When I was actively using, I often felt very blue. The sparkles across the middle of the sky show the power of reflection, and the pinks and purples that fill the top of the sky are my favorite colors, highlighting the ways that my future now feels brighter and clearer because of my recovery. The birds in this painting have risen above the storm, just like I have, and now they fly together in the same direction toward something greater.
